If XXXXXX program is not working with SWTOR, make sure you are running it as an administrator.
I've opted to stop answering this question in the forum thread because it's asked far too often. So I figure I'll create this blog post as a catchall for any time it comes up.
SWTOR runs at the administrator level. As a result, any program not running at this level will be ignored by it. Therefore, in order to get XPadder, Pinnacle Game Profiler, MotioninJoy, etc, etc, to work in SWTOR, you must right-click its executable file (xpadder.exe, pinnaclegameprofiler.exe, etc), go to its properties, and under compatibility mode, set it to run as an administrator.
If after you've tried this you're still having problems, ask away. Just make sure to start your post with "I've tried running (program name) as an administrator, but..."
Note: If you're using MiJ in conjunction with XPadder or PGP, only the latter two need to be run as an administrator.
Update: A few users have noted that they're still having trouble getting XPadder to communicate with SWTOR after following these steps. Errol has provided these suggestions in the comments:
- Firstly if you have windows running as Administrator and your game is
running as Administrator then Xpadder will have to run the same or else
windows will block the signals from reaching Xpadder. So then the best
thing to do is place the Xpadder directory in the root of the C drive or
your desktop or Documents folder.
- Secondly if all the above recommendation is so then check and see if
there is any other major program that is working when you're about to
launch your game because Xpadder will start to emulate the other apps
instead of your game.
- Thirdly if Xpadder is in the system tray right click on it and choose
your controller which should be on the top of the list and then link or
choose the game of choice to play, only if you have several other
profiles in Xpadder because for some strange reason which I myself don't
understand. Xpadder will run another profile to emulate your game. Yes
strange indeed but as I said select the profile and then launch the
game.
- Fourthly if your windows is running with UAC disabled like my own
windows 7 x64 and you're still having the same problem to run the game
then follow my third option above right click on Xpadder while in the
system tray and select your profile. That should resolve your problem/s.
- Another item that may cause some problems is if you have not enabled the AutoProfile feature within the options of Xpadder. Then you'll have to enable it because SWTOR is a Launcher and its really executing another file. So you'll need the AutoProfile. Hope that was helpful.
I've tried running it as an administrator but i none of my controls are working please help
ReplyDeletePlease clarify which "it" you're referring to.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'm not doing this right. Which file are we supposed to right click on and ensure is running at admin level?
ReplyDeleteXPadder.exe (in your case, anyway. Basically, the .exe file for whatever program you are trying to use in SWTOR). You can even set it by right-clicking its shortcut in the Start Menu and going to properties in Windows 7.
ReplyDeleteIve tried running it as admin and changin the comp mode to Vista and its not working...any ideas?
ReplyDeletedsevald, which program are you having troubles with ? Xpadder?
ReplyDeleteyes
ReplyDeleteI also looked in my Program files for Xpadder...its not there..it on my deskdop as an app.
ReplyDeleteIt's fine if it's on your desktop, as it's a standalone app. You just needed to ensure it wasn't in Program Files (x86). I recommend you try and narrow down the source of the problem by first going into the Game Controllers panel and ensure your controller is properly calibrated. Then start up your XPadder profile and try using it in Notepad (you should be able to type any hotkeys you have bound, as well as move the mouse). If it works here, then the source of the problem is getting XPadder to talk to SWTOR. If it doesn't work, then the problem has to do with your XPadder configuration.
ReplyDeleteok, it works in my Notepad..I can type and move. It appears to not be working with SWTOR. There is an "associate files" option in XPadder..should that be on/off? Also, I'm using a Logitech F310, when I build the profile in the Logitech control panel should I select the SWTOR lauunch file or the main SWTOR file? Thanks for all your help, much appreciated.
ReplyDeletethink I got it...all i can figure is I resarted the comp. this morning...
ReplyDeleteThanks for workn the prob w/ me.
It's amazing the number of problems that can be resolved by recycling the power. I love The IT Crowd :-)
ReplyDeleteFinally got it to work. I was right clicking on the folder itself, not the program. A whole new list of tabs came up with options on them. Works like a champ, now. Thank you so much. Awesome stuff. Have a great holiday.
ReplyDeleteDo you need xpadder to use a 360 controller with SWTOR? Or can you use the wireless reciever option. If i need xpadder explain why. please..
ReplyDeleteYes, you need XPadder (or PGP or Joystix Pro, etc). SWTOR is not designed to accept controller inputs (though I've been petitioning for it: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=310437), and therefore you need a third-party program that translates your controller buttons into hotkeys and mouse movement. There are older versions of XPadder that are legal freeware, PGP offers a free trial, and Joystix Pro offers a free SWTOR stix if you want to try the programs out.
Delete(And for anyone else reading, yes, this response means I'm ALMOST back in the game.)
HELP ME I REALLY WANT TO PLAY THIS GAAAME DIVINTY 2 with gamepad i am so desperate
ReplyDeletei have done all you said , it works moving my mouse and clicking things , but as soon as i open my game it stops recognizing it..i would feel so blessed and happy if you could help me...ANY SOFTWARE , hacking, reprograming WHHATEVER i need this to work..my game isn't able to go on a small windows ..somehow i figure it might work if i was able to have the software near each other..if i could make them run together be compatible are there some kind of game modders, hacking or converters that would help acheive this ...there was 1 amazing, angelic time tho the curser in my game MOVED slightly and then stopped..i feel the game has anti software of some kind it knows the controller isn't a mouse >.> ..i know this a different game but i was so excited about it and if i could i would of got this game on xbox but im ps3 and the game is xbox/ps3 only .i hate playing with out a gamepad it would be so much more fun if i could use it .........i would be so happy if this game could work ='(( x thank youuuuuuuuu ]'=== i have motionjoy so my ps3 is recongised i have tryed setting it to xbox aswell ....could i set it to "mouse" that way my gmae would accept it right?
Okay, slow down. Frantic writing like this makes it really hard to understand you, let alone help you. I'm not familiar with Divinity 2, but it sounds like your issue is you are JUST using MotioninJoy. MiJ is designed to get your computer to recognize your PS3 controller as a PC gamepad. You need one of the OTHER programs listed here as well (PGP, XPadder, etc) to translate controller inputs into mouse movements. PGP, in fact, has an official profile for Divinity 2: http://pinnaclegameprofiler.com/pc-controller-support/alpha-gamepad-joystick/xbox-360-ps3-psx-etc-af/d/divinity-ii-ego-draconis
Deletethanx for the profile & sorry i am just so excited about this game xD i had tried pinnacle but it stopped working for some reason and stopped downloading profiles ,
ReplyDeleteok xpadder is working ! I ran in ad (administer) like you said with the game in ad too (still nothing) so the next day i thought i'll do what you said again and it worked xD for some reason i had to run divinity 2 in ad before i ran xpadder in ad because even when they both where in ad it didnt work but it did when divinity was first
thank you so much (= , if only more people new it was that easy =p you should change your page to (in other games too ) x]
Heh heh, you know, I've considered it. I don't play SWTOR as much as I used to...though I really should, considering I haven't bothered cancelling my automatic subscription renewal :-)
Deleteit works great on my game c= ,sometimes my right analog stick doesn't work but that's another problem,(somtimes it does), doesn't bother me really i just use the d pad and L1 & R1 for changing camera angels, but the left one controls movement flawlessly. i have seen a few other posts with the same problem as me, your page was the first that solved it, so many ppl are missing out on great fun playing these pc games that usually don't support gamepads... im gonna say this so other people who Google this can find your page " how to get gamepad (game controller ) of any kind to work on divinity 2 or other games with xpadder, joy2key or pinnacle " there if somebody googles that they will be taken to your page and will get it working xD!
ReplyDeleteso kind regards & take care :-) !
Okay GWF, ya convinced me. I changed the title of my site slightly so folks can find it a little more easily. I've also added some tags to the posts for the programs they're related to.
DeleteHi, I want to play Mmos such as fiesta. I am using Xpadder with my Xbox 360 wired controller. I have it setup correctly, it works with Notepad as well as other things. Its set to run as Admin and is set with an autoprofile to the fiesta launcher. I cant figure out the issue. It completely stops working once the game is launched. Any suggestions would be more than welcomed and I thank you kindly for any help.
ReplyDeleteTrying to get xpadder to work with star wars. It works in notepad not in game. Set it to addman still not working.
ReplyDeleteAn interesting speak is fee comment. I experience that it's far fine to put in writing greater in this matter, it may now not be a taboo subject matter but generally people are not enough to speak on such subjects. To the next. Cheersblog post by pubg on PUBG Hack
